Beyond Annoyed

In case you hadnt already noticed, I STILL cannot get my blog list to work. I have tried and tried everything I can think of to edit/remove/change/replace it in any way I can. Alas, all I could come up with was a list of links (that looks terrible), but at least you guys can still see who I read up on.

Le sigh...

Friday Fun

First things first- I saw a man riding a horse down Parmer Lane today. I even pinched myself to make sure it was really happening! And because this picture made me giggle a little:

Next- I started laser hair removal today and while Ill leave out most of the details, I can tell you that my underarms hurt like a sonofagun. Seriously.

Lastly- The new Blue October cd is out, and after a thorough listening I can indeed confirm (because who actually doubted it) that it is (of course) AMAZING.

That is all. Happy Friday.

Ugh

So my eye is still swollen and looks a bit worse after sleeping- in addition to that, the right side of my throat is almost completely closed. I iced my eye down as much as I could stand last night and it seems to have done me no good.

Dont get me wrong, I can breathe and see just fine but I am extremely uncomfortable and mostly want to figure out what on earth this was caused by. Not to mention I look pretty awful- but that mostly makes me feel sorry for people that have to look at me.

My gut instinct is that I am obviously allergic to something I handled/ate- but I didnt cook or eat anything that abnormal.

- rice
- chicken
- shallots
- bok choy (the most unsual thing I ate)
- soy sauce
- bbq sauce

Eye Warned You

I thought it would be nice to make dinner tonight and actually put some effort into it. I spent TWO hours at the grocery store making sure I had all the ingredients I would need. I seem to do this most often in phases- buy out the whole store and cook every night for a week- then eat horribly the rest of the month (as Ive mentioned before, I refuse to go to the store unless its absolutely necessary).

When I came home from work I started to prepare what I would need and decided I would wait until later to start the actual cooking. After cutting up bok choy, shallots and raw chicken my eye was itching terribly so I reached up and brushed it with my CLEAN fingertip. Id honestly washed my hands about 14 times in the midst of handling all that raw chicken...

A few minutes later I walked into the bathroom only to look in the mirror and see Quasimodo starring back at me. My eye that had been itching was swollen. I immediately jumped in the shower to flush is as best as possible and its begun to go back down in size. Even after icing it for about 20 minutes, I still look like this: (and dont you dare judge me-- I have on no makeup and my eyes look like they stare out in two different directions- at least, I hope they dont always look like this...

The swelling had gone down a substantial amount when I finally decided to capture the moment- so this hardly does justice to my "freak out" and the call to my mom- but you get the idea. Its just weird to look down and see nothing but your bottom eyelid. And Im sure its weird for all of you to see me with a towel on my head. Now maybe youre as freaked out as I am?

As Promised

My lovely flowers from my lovely have finally opened and shown me their colors! Arent they wonderfully 'springtime'?

In more disappointing news, my advance ordered copy of Twilight has yet to reach my doorstep. Le sigh. But in a stroke of genius, Amazon sent out a promotional code to allow a free 24 hour rental to watch the movie online. I suppose thats a sufficient consolation prize. I have yet to watch it though as I want to carefully time my twenty four hours and watch it as many times as possible.

Disgusted

Has anyone else been sucked into the awful new show Toddlers and Tiaras on TLC? Its kind of along the same lines as what I said when I saw The Real Housewives of Orange County... its an absolute train wreck you shamfully cannot peel your eyes away from.

I am just dumbfounded at how these women push their daughters to compete on such a superficial level. I get that there are two sides to every coin, but I just cannot get on board with what some of these women put their young and innocent daughters through. Spray tans, veneers and false eyelashes? Give me a break! How about gymnastics, dance, kickball and baby dolls? Does this girl look like she is enjoying herself?

As I said, there are two sides to every coin- and I understand that some girls may aspire to compete in beauty pageants and that they may long for the crown and sash. I just wanted to take this moment to promise my future offspring that I will never put them through something like this. Ever.

Squealing

I got an email from Amazon today letting me know that my latest purchase was on its way to me. And Ill give you one hint:Derek will be out of town this weekend and I bet you can guess what Ill be watching over and over and over and over.....

Cats

These cat pictures never make me laugh. Ever.

But for some reason, this one seriously gets me every time. Every. Single. Time. Perhaps its the grammar? Perhaps Im crazy?

Road Rage

Seeing as how I am in my car 90% of any given work-day, I have developed a list of my pet peeves for you all. This is just a taste of some of the things I encounter while working from my vehicle.

- People that will not allow you to switch lanes into theirs. Despite your blinker being on for a solid thirty seconds, they insist upon speeding up before you move over, only to then move into the lane you were previously occupying. Youre right, youre in a bigger hurry than I am. Im not important at all and you clearly are.

- When the same song is on two on more radio stations at once- and its a song you hate/is completely played out. Sure, if Lady Gaga's "Lets Dance" were on two stations and I could listen to it twice in a row, that is completely acceptable.

- When someone FLIES by you at an incredible speed after riding on your tailgate for an unacceptable amount of time. However, the responsible driver you are, knows the speed limit is ridiculously low and the are is constantly infiltrated with tons of policemen waiting to ticket you. The jerk that sped off into the sunset gets miles ahead- and then next thing you know, they are seated next to you at the red light. Sucker.

- Really ridiculous bumper stickers. The same applies for cars that have over two or three bumper stickers- especially when they drive a junker and its COVERED in them. We get it, you have an opinion. About everything.

- People that used to stare me and my car down while I drove a Ford Focus with Budweiser labels affixed all over it. Yes, I drive a small car covered in blatant advertising- staring at it will not change anything you see. And no, you may not have a beer (most common question asked through my closed window by homeless people).

Sometimes I miss my desk job. But not often ;) Id have nothing to write about.

Martes

I have mentioned before how strange it is to me when there are people other than myself on the roads while I trek it into work for my 6 AM meetings. Not only was there a decent flow of traffic during my commute but when I pulled into the office, a man next to me got out of his car ON THE PHONE. Who on earth would he have been talking to? If I were the person on the other end, I guarantee you my first words (even before I said hello) would be something along the lines of “have you ANY idea what time it is?!” Sure, tired is tired but thanks to daylight savings time, imagine what time it really was when my alarm went off at 445 AM.

Tuesdays are tough for me. Theyre long, theyre somewhat boring when I have to kill the time between the end of my meeting and my first sales call around 930, and I spend most of the day soured on the fact that I had to wake up before anyone I know. I decided that one thing that may help me this week was to dress up. I got a promotion and feel that occasions as such are a chance to really step it up style wise. And so… Desiree put on a skirt today (to crawl on bar floors and haul kegs around restaurants). I feel great and have gotten compliments (if you count the guys at work saying things like, “you have a date later?” Or… “you interviewing elsewhere?”) but I will admit, my feet already hurt from my new shoes. Le sigh.

On an exciting note- my darling Erin is coming to town tonight. She is interviewing with my company for my former position tomorrow morning. Regardless of the outcome, I am just excited to see her face and squeeze her to death. I just hope she gets in town in time for a few drinks and a pre-interview celebration for good luck! Think happy thoughts.

Shopaholic?

I found a great deal today on a dress I just may have to bust out on Easter (weather permitting) and possibly to some spring weddings as well. I have never in my life shopped at a Kohls so you can imagine my shock and awe today when I was greeted with a barrage of bargains. I think I may have found my new heaven today. Now if only I could find a pair of shoes to match...

I have yet to start my new position at work and will not do so until around the 23rd of March. The main reason being so that I can train whoever my company decides to hire- (which side note, I have turned in close to 10 resumes already, if youre looking email me!) Having said that, my company is so incredibly awesome, they are going to start paying me my new salary NOW! Sure, the money is already burning a hole in my pocket, but isnt that normal? Or is that just me? I suppose a better justification than "I earned a promotion that pays more, so what if I dont have it yet" is trumped by the fact that I have not bought a new dress in close to 9 months and homegirl goes to a LOT of weddings. Over the last few wedding seasons my two best friends and I have made a habit of trading what we have amongst ourselves- the only problem was that their collection always changed and mine did not. Bummer. So it was time to seize the day and buy this classy number for the low low price of only $29. You go girl! And you go Kohls...

I have searched high and low for a picture of the other dress I went hunting for (I almost always pre-shop online). However, since it made me want to gouge my eyes out and consume nothing but water for the rest of my life, maybe its for the best that it seems to have disappeared into the abyss of the Internet?

Last but certainly not least, another gem I happened across:
I already took off the "D" and put it on a plain gold chain I had at home-I figured the D could be for myself, or it could be for Derek.
Either way, it was a steal!
Happy bargain hunting to you all!

Mini Slideshow

I wanted to take a minute to give credit where it is due. My sweet Derek has really been upping the ante with all of his cooking and grilling. I know all of you saw the feast he created for Valentines day- now look what he went and did. All in a days work when you wear a chefs hat, I guess.
As its been a while since I have posted anything substantial, I also wanted to share some pictures of the Houston bbq cookoff we went to this past weekend. For those of you who dont already know, Derek is a real clown and likes to play dress up whenever possible. These outfits were purely for show and I assure you they (the guys) do not dress like this on an everyday basis. This was my second time at cook off and I can honestly say it seems to get better and better each year!

Your eyes do not deceive you, these two really did have a "nipple off" while waiting in line to take taxis home. Ill leave you with that.
